Patty Petkovich, a ceramic artist for almost four decades began her journey with clay after graduating from McMaster University with an Arts degree (minor in Art History). Starting with studio ceramic classes at Mohawk College, she continued her studies with a ceramic collective in France in the late 80’s then joined the Kingston Potters’ Guild in 1990 after finally settling in Kingston. For the past twenty-five years Patty has been an educator at the Kingston Potters’ Guild giving ceramic instruction to beginner, intermediate and advanced students. She served as President of the Kingston Potters’ Guild from 2011-2014 and Co-chair of the Board of Directors for the Tett Center from 2010-2014. Until recently Patty has worked with a deep cobalt blue electric fired glaze. Her fascination with ancient glazes especially the rich Tenmoku glaze and the translucent blue/green Jun glaze that became popular during the Song dynasty has drawn her to explore these higher gas fired ancient glazes and apply them to her contemporary forms.
